Ottoman Colours and Materials

An Ottoman is a versatile and flexible piece of furniture with multiple uses across your Australian living room. It’s a freestanding piece that comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials, generally padded and upholstered and occasionally with a hollow centre for extra storage.

Use it as a Sydney centrepiece, a place to put your feet up and rest or move it to the side for some flexible extra seating. The versatility comes from the simplicity of its design, with a choice of styles and colours to match your existing suite or to add an element of contrast.

Our footstools, ottomans and poufs come in a diverse selection of materials, catering to various styles and preferences. The material selection includes luxurious leather, which provides a timeless and sophisticated look; versatile fabric options, which offer comfort and durability and distressed velvet, adding a touch of opulence and texture to any room.

What colours do your footstools, ottomans and poufs come in?

Our footstools, ottomans and poufs are available in a wide range of colours, from vibrant, eye-catching shades like bright blues and sunny yellows to more subdued hues such as neutral tones and earthy greens. This variety ensures that you can find the perfect ottoman to match your decor, whether you're looking to make a bold statement or blend seamlessly with your existing interior design.

How do I care for my footstool?

Caring for your footstool involves regular maintenance to keep it looking its best. Always check the care label or manufacturer's guidelines for specific cleaning recommendations and avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the fabric or finish. Start by vacuuming or brushing the footstool to remove dust and debris.

For fabric-covered footstools, spot clean stains using a suitable upholstery cleaner and a soft cloth.

If your footstool is made of leather, wipe it down regularly with a damp cloth and treat it with a leather conditioner every few months to keep the material soft and prevent cracks.

How to choose the right pouf for your living room

When selecting a pouf for your living room, consider its purpose, whether as extra seating, a footrest, or a decorative piece. Ensure it complements the size and scale of your existing furniture without overcrowding the space. Choose materials that suit your lifestyle; durable, easy-to-clean fabrics like leather or synthetic blends are ideal for busy areas, while softer materials like velvet add a touch of luxury. Select colours and patterns that coordinate with your room’s decor, and opt for a shape and design that matches your living room’s overall style, whether modern, traditional, or eclectic.

FAQ

Why do we call it an Ottoman?

An Ottoman was originally a low type sofa with no arms, piled high with cushions and set against the walls of a room, used principally in the Ottoman Empire of Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

What is an Ottoman used for?

An Ottoman can be used as a centrepiece (as a kind of makeshift table), a place to put your feet up and rest or as flexible extra seating. It is a very versatile piece of furniture, which in part explains its ongoing popularity.

Can you sit on an Ottoman?

Ottomans generally have no arms or backs which makes them suitable as extra or short-term seating. Although placed against a wall and with cushions it can also be a longer-term seating option.

What is the difference between a footstool, ottoman, and poufs?

A footstool is generally small, low to the ground, and primarily used as a footrest. It's compact and often placed in front of a chair. An ottoman is larger and more multifunctional than a footstool; it can be used as extra seating, a coffee table, or a footrest and sometimes includes storage options. A pouf is softer and more casual, typically round or cube-shaped, filled with soft material, and used as informal seating or a footrest. Each serves a unique function and can enhance the decor and usability of your living space in Australia.

Do I really need a footstool?

Footstools are versatile additions to any living room, serving multiple functions beyond a simple footrest. Not only do they provide a comfortable place to elevate your legs, but they can also act as hidden storage and contribute a stylish accent to your decor. With their practicality and flair, footstools often become the centrepiece of a room, enhancing both its functionality and aesthetic appeal.
